A few things you should know about VoIP. You need an ample speed internet connection to achieve good voice quality. The slower connections such as 256/128 and 512/128 are generally not good enough to maintain decent voice quality and you will more than likely experience jitter when talking. Connections such as 1500/256, 512/512, 8000/386 or higher will produce good voice quality without question.
Generally modems supplied by Telstra and Optus are not compatible for voice as they are cheap and nasty and do not favour the ports VoIP requires to work efficiently, so at a minumim you may need to purchase a new modem such as a Dlink, Netgear, Netcom and selected Linksys ranges such as an AM300. Some routers are also not compatible to work efficiently with VoIP and may need changing with quality QOS equipment supplied by Harrisontech.
